Giostra dell’Arme – San Gemini

The Giostra dell’Arme represents another medieval re-enactment, which includes the contest between the knights from the two districts of San Gemini, Rione Piazza and Rione Rocca, for the conquest of the Palio. Each rider must get a ring with a javelin and throw it at a shield-shaped target, divided into sections with different scores. This year the re-enactment will take place from 29 September to 14 October, and the contest is just the conclusion of a multiplicity of other events, including theatrical performances, concerts and historical parades with flag-wavers and drums.
